Buhari To Sign 2023 Budget Tuesday - Senate President, Ahmed Lawan

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, announced on Friday that President Muhammadu Buhari will sign the 2023 appropriation bill on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Lawan made the remarks following a closed-door meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Lawan, who arrived at the State House just before 3 p.m., said he talked about the President’s recent additional loan request as well as the 2023 appropriate bill.

He bemoaned the fact that the appropriation bill was signed a little later than the 2022 bill, which was signed on December 31, 2021.

The 2023 appropriation bill, themed ‘Budget of Fiscal Sustainability and Transition,’ estimated total revenue available to fund the budget for the year at N9.73 trillion, leaving a deficit of N10.78 trillion, representing 4.78% of the nation’s GDP and exceeding the 3% threshold set by the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.
