ASUU suspends its 8-month strike on a conditional basis
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has temporarily halted its eight-month-long strike, a member of the union’s National Executive Committee told Channels TV early Friday.
During a meeting of its leadership that began Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday, the union decided to suspend the strike.
The union called the meeting to determine its next course of action after its state branches met last week in response to the Court of Appeal ruling.
The Court of Appeal ordered ASUU to halt its strike until its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to return to work could be heard.
Members of the union’s National Executive Committee, which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.
