Boat capsizes in Anambra, 30 people missing

30 people are reported missing after a boat carrying 85 passengers capsized in the Umunnankwo community of Anambra State’s Ogbaru Local Government Council on Friday, October 7.

According to eyewitnesses, the boat took off from Onukwu Bridge and was on its way to Nkwo market and Ogbakuba, both in Ogbaru LGA, when it capsized.

Following the incident, approximately 30 people are still missing. Hon. Pascal Aniegbuna, Transition Committee Chairman, Ogbaru Local Government Area, told reporters that some of the passengers were rescued while others died.
