President Buhari Transmits ₦819.5 Billion Supplementary Budget To NASS
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), has transmitted to the National Assembly a supplementary Appropriation Bill for 2023.
On Wednesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila read to members the contents of the bill’s cover letter.
In his cover letter, Buhari stated that the additional demand for N819,536,937,813 for next year is due to the devastation caused by floods on farmlands and road infrastructure.
According to the President, Nigeria has experienced the “worst flood incidents in recent history, resulting in massive destruction of farmlands,” and the country now faces food insecurity.
He stressed that the floods affected “several roads and bridges” across the 36 states of the federation.
The supplementary budget got to the federal parliament about 24 hours before the passage of the 2023 Appropriation Bill.
The president only transmitted the Finance Bill 2023 to the National Assembly on Tuesday.
