World Cup host Qatar becomes the earliest host to be eliminated in History

Following a loss to Senegal on Friday, November 25, Qatar became the first World Cup host country to be eliminated after two games.

On Friday, the tournament hosts suffered their second consecutive defeat in Group A, falling 3-1 to Senegal. After being defeated 2-0 by Ecuador in their group opener on Sunday, they now have no chance of qualifying for the knockout phase after Ecuador and the Netherlands drew 1-1.

Qatar still has one game left against the Netherlands on Tuesday, and even if they win, they will only have three points, which will not be enough to catch their group rivals.

South Africa is the only other host nation to be knocked out in the group stage of the World Cup, but they were only knocked out in the final game of the group stage in 2010.
