{"id":471,"date":"2022-10-04T11:24:01","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T11:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsnigeria24.com\/?p=471"},"modified":"2022-10-04T11:24:04","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T11:24:04","slug":"second-niger-bridge-to-be-ready-for-use-by-christmas-2022-federal-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsnigeria24.com\/news\/naija-news\/second-niger-bridge-to-be-ready-for-use-by-christmas-2022-federal-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Niger Bridge To Be Ready For Use By Christmas 2022 \u2013 Federal Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"540\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsnigeria24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-49.png?resize=540%2C540&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Second Niger Bridge To Be Ready For Use By Christmas 2022 \u2013 Federal Government\" class=\"wp-image-472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsnigeria24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-49.png?w=540&amp;ssl=1 540w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsnigeria24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-49.png?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsnigeria24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-49.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsnigeria24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-49.png?resize=80%2C80&amp;ssl=1 80w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsnigeria24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-49.png?resize=320%2C320&amp;ssl=1 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Federal Government has stated that the second Niger Bridge will be operational by Christmas this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Seyi Martins, the Ag Controller of Works in Anambra, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martins stated that the first phase of the 1.6km Second Niger Bridge was 95 percent complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Controller noted that, contrary to popular belief, the projects would be ready for use by travelers during the holiday season, rather than by 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari administration is determined to ensure that travelers enjoyed stress-free motoring over the River Niger<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said motorists would not be subjected to gridlock experienced on the existing bridge during yuletide this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe first phase of the project, which was the bridge itself, is substantially completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe bridge project is 95 percent complete and it is expected to be ready by December 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe steel guard rails are complete, the roads are set for vehicle traffic; the toll plaza area is almost completed, and what is left is the installation of toll booth canopies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Controller said the bridge could be accessed from the interchange at Obosi on the Onitsha-Owerri road and that a road was being constructed to connect traffic on the Asaba-Benin expressway to it pending the completion of the second phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe second phase of the project is yet to commence, but the government has deemed it fit that upon completion of the first phase it will be open to traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the Onitsha end, there is an interchange at Obosi along the Onitsha \u2013 Owerri highway where you can access the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn the Asaba end, there is a link road we are constructing to enable travelers to access the bridge from Benin-Onitsha road,\u201d he said.
